Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a reliable food source for members of our community during the holiday season.  It takes many people working together to make this happen.  We partner with teachers and students, community members, businesses, and volunteers.

Our History

The Goodfellows Christmas Basket Campaign was created through a collaboration of the Leamington Mersea Goodfellows and a Can Drive organized by three teachers from Leamington District Secondary School in 1978.  This partnership has been maintained for many years because of volunteers and the goodwill of the community.  To read more about the founding members, click on the tab below.

What's in a Goodfellow Food Basket?

Each of our recipients can expect the following:

Bushel Baskets
Each heaping bushel basket contains a heavy load of cans which is topped off with numerous dry goods. They could include: beans, kidney beans, tomatoes, pasta sauce and corn donated from the canneries, plus a variety of cans collected by the LDSS Students during their Can Drive, and finally, a selection of purchased groceries.

Fresh Vegetable Baskets
Contain a variety of fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, cukes, onions, apples, all donated from growers in our community.

Grocery Bags
Contain a variety of dry goods and other treats.

Each recipient also receives a 10 lb bag of potatoes and a turkey.
